Thank you for your interest in HCA HealthONE Mental Health and Wellness Center in Aurora, CO. We are one of only 2 psychiatry residency programs in the state. Our 32-resident program provides a supportive and collaborative environment while trainees develop a strong foundation of psychiatric knowledge and clinical skills. With a focus on wellness, residents are afforded time to bond and experience all that beautiful Colorado has to offer!
I have been closely involved with the program since its inception. Originally from Tennessee, I obtained my Medical Degree from The University of Tennessee and then completed adult psychiatry training at the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at UVA Medical Center. I then completed a Child and Adolescent Fellowship at Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School, joining HCA in 2016. I’ve served many roles within the residency program but most enjoy direct mentorship and teaching, and I’m so excited to serve in the role of training director.
Residents in our program have the opportunity to rotate in a variety of practice settings including community mental health agencies, a specialized eating disorder program, intensive outpatient, and the state hospital. The majority of training occurs at our acute care mental health hospital – the second largest in the state – which includes geriatric and adolescent subspecialty units. The patient population is quite diverse, and residents will work closely within multidisciplinary teams. Didactics, journal club, wellness events, noon conference and our PGY 3 outpatient resident clinic are all located within this same building. Having this “home base” facilitates a sense of community and connection to your colleagues.
We have gathered a passionate, motivated, and intelligent cohort of residents and will continue to do so. Residents in our program gain proficiency in pharmacology and therapy skills but take a holistic approach, addressing further medical and social needs that may be perpetuating impairment. HCA HealthONE Aurora is a robust teaching hospital, not just for residents but also for nursing and medical students. Residents have gone on to fellowships in forensics, child and adolescent, and addictions. Where will you go next?!
We are delighted that you are considering training in our program and look forward to your application. Please contact us for any further questions about our program and check out @hca_psych_aurora.
Sincerely,
Damon DeLeon, MD
